Taking Action to End Rough Sleeping in Hartlepool

We are proud to see the work of our Homeless Response Team recognised this week by Hartlepool Borough Council, highlighting our ongoing partnership to reduce and prevent rough sleeping across Hartlepool.

Cornerstone Supported Housing & Counselling has been commissioned by Hartlepool Borough Council to provide specialist support for people who are sleeping rough or at risk of rough sleeping across the town.

For our team, this work is about much more than finding someone a bed for the night. It is about finding people, building trust and helping them take those first steps away from the streets and towards a safer, more stable future.

Supporting people on the streets of Hartlepool

Our experienced Homeless Response Team works directly on the streets of Hartlepool, carrying out regular street sweeps, responding to reports of rough sleeping and visiting locations known to our team.

When we locate someone sleeping rough, we work with them to understand their individual circumstances and help them access the right support. This can include emergency accommodation, housing advice, healthcare and connections to other specialist services.

Sometimes that support can happen quickly. For others, it can take repeated visits and time to build the trust needed for someone to feel ready to accept help.

Whatever the situation, our aim remains the same: to help people move away from rough sleeping and towards somewhere safe to call home.

Working together across Hartlepool

Ending rough sleeping cannot be achieved by one organisation alone.

Partnership working is at the heart of our approach. We work closely with Hartlepool Borough Council and other local organisations and services to make sure people experiencing homelessness can access the wider support they may need.

Our Hartlepool Homeless Hub on Park Road also provides a place where people who are sleeping rough or experiencing housing distress can come directly to our team for advice, practical help and support.

We are incredibly grateful to our partners and to the Hartlepool community for continuing to support our work and report concerns when they see someone sleeping rough.

People experiencing rough sleeping or housing distress can also visit our Hartlepool Homeless Hub at 66–68 Park Road, Hartlepool, TS24 7PT.

Every person we reach is an opportunity to change a situation for the better. By continuing to work together as a community, we can reach people sooner, provide the right support and help more people find a route away from the streets.
