Community Kindness Helps Rough Sleeper Find Safety in Spennymoor

Community Kindness Helps Rough Sleeper Find Safety in Spennymoor

Thanks to the kindness of the Spennymoor community and funds raised during World Homelessness Day, Cornerstone’s Homeless Response Team has helped another individual off the streets and into safe accommodation.

Today, Cornerstone received several reports from concerned members of the public about an individual sleeping rough outside Aldi in Spennymoor.

With further storms and severe weather forecast, our Homeless Response Team attended the individual’s last known location to offer support.

Thankfully, with the funds raised through our recent World Homelessness Day activities, our team were able to collect the individual and place them straight into our immediate access accommodation, providing somewhere safe and warm to stay when no other housing options were available.

Support Beyond Tonight

Our support doesn’t stop at providing a roof for the night.

On Monday, the individual will be collected and brought to our homeless hub in Bishop Auckland, where they will attend our breakfast club before working with our team and Durham County Council to explore a more permanent housing solution.

Our aim is not simply to get people off the streets for one night, but to help them find the stability and support they need to move forward.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Spennymoor

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in Spennymoor who raised concerns, checked on this individual and offered kindness during their time on the streets.

The individual asked us to take a photograph and share it publicly so those who had been supporting them could see they were safe and know just how grateful they are.

Although they were happy for us to show their face, we have chosen to protect their privacy. We believe everyone deserves dignity and respect, particularly during such a difficult time in their life.

Your Support Makes This Possible

This is a reminder of just how important community support and fundraising are to the work we do at Cornerstone.

The money raised during World Homelessness Day is already making a real difference, allowing our team to respond quickly when someone has nowhere else to turn.

Tonight, one less person is sleeping on our streets.

To everyone who raised the alarm, donated, fundraised or simply showed someone a little kindness, thank you.💙🧡
